teaching approach
I always found it intriguing to empower students to find their own, critical way to aspects of history, but also to their own, contemporary culture. Already in school I was most impressed by those teachers who succeeded in opening doors to new universes of knowledge while asking pupils to learn to think for themselves and ponder critically. Later in university I deeply appreciated if lecturers and professors reached this goal. I took it as the guiding principle of my own teaching: not only to transfer new information to the students, but to teach them to deal independently with issues, using their very own skills, knowledge and critical interest. This nevertheless does not exclude to use as multiple teaching techniques as possible - involving different media types, working methods and objects of investigation.
